The inside of most pickup trucks is a slick place. That's OK until you are actually hauling something and need a place to tie a rope then it's not so slick. Especially if you need a high tie of point what can you do? That's what bed rails are made for.
Pickup bed rails are the tubing rails that mount on the top of truck bed sides. Rails add a distinctive look to a truck and are available in stainless steel, aluminum or painted coatings. But bed rails aren't just for looks.
Bed Side Rail
Bed rails protect the top of the truck bed from scratches and scrapes that are a part of loading stuff over the sides of a pickup. The bed rails take some of the wear and tear that would normally fall on the truck. It's much easier to repair or replace bed rails than to repair the side of the bed.
The other function of the rails is as a high tie point for securing cargo. Many trucks don't come with very good tie points in the bed. Even tie points in the bed are low for higher cargoes. An good example application is hauling a refrigerator. So being able to tie off loads up above the bed sides is a real handy feature, maybe something you'll use often depending on your loads.
Bed rails mount either in the stake pockets on the bed sides or out of the stake pockets. Mounting in the stake pockets requires no drilling. Mounting out of the pockets requires drilling some holes.
